The Military Draft as a Metaphor for Mandatory Vaccination and Thoughts on Self Ownership

While searching the interwebs for content already written that covers similarities between the military draft and mandatory vaccination as a violation of self-ownership, I happened upon this book that makes this analogy quite well and also describes perfectly the horrific treatment society places on victims of vaccine injury and those who speak out about it.

In An Unfortunate Coincidence: A Mother's Life inside the Autism Controversy, Julie Obradovic writes:

Many people have attempted to use car seats, drinking and driving, smoking, and seat bets as justification for mandatory vaccination. The enforcement of those laws, they argue, is proof that the government has the right to make you do something, or stop you from doing something, if it’s your own good and for the good of others.

But they are wrong. Those are not appropriate analogies. The enforcement of those laws cannot result in harm. Wearing a seat belt cannot hurt me. Wearing a helmet cannot hurt me. Not smoking if I like to smoke may be irritating, but it will not bring me physical harm.

Vaccines, however, carry inherent risk. They can kill you. They can cause brain damage. They can cause chronic disease. The only thing we are arguing about is how often it happens and to whom, thus the reason for the liability protection in the first place. The medical community, the pharmaceutical industry, and the government say it’s rare. Consumers say it’s not.

And so a more appropriate analogy for mandatory vaccines is the draft. We are literally in a war on infectious disease, and we have decided as a nation to put our children on the front lines of the defense; vaccines are the main weapon we are giving them to fight it.

Those of us who believed in the fight, supported the fight, and never questioned the worthiness of the fight, or our leaders, have learned the hard way that sometimes equipment backfires. Sometimes people die in wars from friendly fire. Sometimes things go terribly wrong, and the war they thought was worth fighting, in the end, really wasn’t. The cost was too high.

But we have also learned something else, something that no child, no parent, and no family should ever have to learn like we did. That some children’s deaths and injuries don’t matter. That some children aren’t worthy of being acknowledged. That rather that being heralded as heroes for their sacrifice, they are dismissed as acceptable collateral damage.

Under no circumstance are we to talk about our loss and scare others. The fact that most rewarded cases of vaccine injury are sealed, meaning if you want your money, you have to agree not to speak of it, proves it.

To reiterate, kids who die from vaccine-preventable diseases are victims that matter. Kids who die from vaccines designed to prevent those diseases are acceptable losses. This is how we think as a society and how we behave.

It would be bad enough if this is how we treated adults in any war. In fact, we saw the way the young men making their way back from Vietnam were treated and hopefully have learned from it. They didn’t ask to be drafted either. They gave their lives to a questionable war and then were treated horribly for it by many. It was an embarrassing episode in our nation’s history.

But so is this, even more so. Those are our children! And when vaccines hurt them, the children deserve recognition, treatment, and respect. They deserve to be acknowledged, their names on a plaque equal to any other veteran in a war. And by God, they deserve the truth.

And this is why I believe we had the measles outbreak of 2015. Because a generation of parents put their children on the front lines only to find out the hard way their kids don’t matter.

They also had to find out the hard way that the equipment was bad; that the armed services figured it out and hid it from them; that the very people responsible for allowing it to happen were also allowed to determine their own guilt, not to mention profit from it in the process; and that their damaged children wouldn’t get acknowledgment or treatment anyway.

People have stopped believing in the war on infectious disease as they once had. The war against polio can hardly be considered equal to the war against chicken pox or hepatitis B, and yet they are treated the same. Likewise, they have stopped believing in the leaders that wage the war. The revolving door between policy makers and policy profiteers in the medical sector has made it impossible to trust their motives.

And they have stopped believing in the strategy used to fight it. Whistleblowers, alleged thieves, questionable science, political nonsense, fear mongering, attacking parents, astroturfing, sealed cases, manipulative legalese, shame, name-calling, threats, coercion, bullying, and pitting parents against parents have made the motive clear. It’s not about protecting children. It’s about protecting profit, a product, and a program.

I wrote about this in a post called “I Believe the Words You’re Looking for are Thank You.” Rather than be scolded and attacked, I thought it was imperative to point out that many families had already lost a soldier in the war on infectious disease. A “thank you” would be more appropriate than the hate directed at them.

Furthermore, we acknowledged a long time ago as a society that there is only so much one family is supposed to give to any war. The movie Saving Private Ryan is the perfect example. That any mother should have to give up all of her children for any war is too much. Why would we ever expect a mother of a vaccine-injured child to vaccinate another child?

To be sure, it’s not something this generation of mothers with injured children is willing to let happen without a fight. They’ll be damned if they’re going to be turned into the enemy now, too. Encouraging parents of enlisted soldiers to attack parents of fallen soldiers is as ugly as it gets.

And then to add to this, on the question of self ownership as it pertains to conscription, an excerpt from this brilliantly written article by the great William Grigg - 'National Service' And Conscription - A Question Of Ownership:

The common understanding is that government exists to protect the lives and individual rights of citizens. Military conscription, which is the most severe form of "national service," is based on the idea that the people exist to protect the government. This principle was given voice in a July 1863 editorial supporting the draft in which the New York Times claimed that "our national authority has the right - to every dollar and every right arm for its protection" (emphasis added).

In any form, government-compelled "service" is an assertion of state ownership of the individual, and a violation of the most fundamental property right - self-ownership. In the Western tradition of individual liberty under law, no other human being, either individually or acting as part of a collective, can properly claim ownership over any part of our lives, or the product of our exertions, without our consent. That consent can be expressed through contract, commerce, covenant, or charity. It cannot properly be obtained through coercion or fraud.

Thomas Jefferson, in a letter written to John Adams during the War for Independence, referred to conscription as "the last of all oppressions." If the State can steal you - not just your labor, but your physical being - as those controlling it see fit, you have no rights.
